“Why are there ambulances sitting in restaurants, gas stations and parking lots talking for hours at a time until they receive a call?
Answer:
EVAC Ambulance uses a flexible deployment system called System Status Management (SSM). Traditionally, ambulances were posted at fixed posts or stations waiting for emergency calls. Problems encountered were extended response times and increase costs. Additionally, EVAC would have to add 6 to 8 stations causing a budget increase of approximately 5 to 6 million dollars annually.
By utilizing a flexible deployment system, ambulances are staged throughout Volusia County based on call history and geographical concerns. EVAC Ambulance uses over 50 flexible posting locations and 6 fixed stations to have ambulances in the right location at the right time when they are needed, to minimize response times while maximizing cost efficiency in the system.
