System Status Management
EVAC Ambulance is one of only a few ambulance services in the State of Florida to use computer-aided flexible deployment, called System Status Management. Traditionally, ambulances were located at fixed posts or stations waiting for emergency calls. This posed an immediate concern regarding extended response times, which fell well below the industry standards to some areas of the county.
To alleviate this crisis, EVAC Ambulance would have to add six to eight stations throughout the county to meet an ever increasing demand, causing a budget increase of approximately 5 to 6 million dollars annually. By utilizing a flexible deployment system, ambulances are staged throughout Volusia County based on call history and geographical concerns. EVAC Ambulance uses over fifty flexible posting locations and six fixed stations to have ambulances in the right location at the right time when they are needed, to minimize response times while maximizing cost efficiency in the system. When EVAC Ambulance began using the flexible deployment strategy in the early 90s, we shaved an average of about 1 minute 30 seconds from our response times. It is estimated that less than 100 ambulance services nationwide actually deploy trucks like EVAC Ambulance.
