Organization Background

The Emergency Medical Foundation, Inc., d/b/a EVAC Ambulance, was founded in 1981 in Volusia County, Florida, as a non-profit, §501(c)(3) corporation to provide emergency medical services to the citizens and visitors in Volusia County, Florida.  Prior to 1981, the county was served by several funeral homes and a private, for-profit EMS provider under contract with the county.  When that provider announced that it would discontinue ambulance service in Volusia County, the Halifax Hospital Foundation and the Volusia County EMS Advisory Council, in conjunction with Volusia County, established The Emergency Medical Foundation d/b/a EVAC Ambulance and purchased all of the for-profit provider’s equipment, hired all of the staff and initiated service on October 1, 1981.  Today, EVAC Ambulance is contracted by Volusia County as the sole countywide provider of ambulance service, as it has for the past 27 years.  Thus, regardless of geographic or political boundaries, every citizen and visitor in Volusia County can be assured of the same high quality level of ambulance service.
